Phase 5 Activity Pack
Make exploring more complex phonics sounds fun with our colourful Phase 5 Activity Cards!
Designed to support children as they progress through their phonics journey, these printable activity cards help little learners recognise, read and write more complex spelling patterns, including digraphs, trigraphs and split digraphs.
Building on their existing phonics knowledge, each card features six engaging activities to help children explore alternative spellings, practise blending and develop confidence with reading and writing.
What's included?
24 beautifully illustrated phonics activity cards
Six engaging activities on every card
Digraphs, trigraphs and split digraphs, including a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e and u-e
Colourful letter characters to support sound recognition
Picture challenges to identify sounds in words
Blending activities to practise reading increasingly complex words
Letter formation guides to support writing and spelling
A handy information sheet explaining how to use the cards
Learning through play
Each card follows six simple steps:
Sound it: Look at the letters together and say the sound they represent. Explore how two or three letters can work together to represent one sound, even when the letters are separated by another letter!
Name it: Name each individual letter within the digraph, trigraph or split digraph, helping children understand the difference between letter names and sounds.
Find it: Look carefully at the illustrations and identify the picture containing the target sound. Can your child hear where the sound appears in the word?
Blend it: Add sound buttons underneath the words, using dots for individual sounds, dashes for digraphs and trigraphs, and an arch to connect split digraphs. Say each sound and blend them together to read the word.
Trace it: Follow the letter formation guides to practise writing the letters correctly, paying particular attention to the positioning of split digraphs.
Write it: Have a go at writing the spelling pattern independently. For an extra challenge, can your child write a word containing the sound?
These playful activities help children recognise more complex spelling patterns, develop their decoding skills, strengthen their understanding of alternative spellings and build confidence with reading and writing.
Please note: This is a digital download containing 24 printable activity cards and an information sheet. No physical product will be posted. Once purchased, you'll receive a secure download link, which remains valid for 24 hours after your first download.
